Trials and Tribulations at Canal Boat Cruises

When the weathermen predict that there is going to be a downfall of snow, some people within the affected areas start to panic. With the snowy conditions causing an increase in accidents they often wonder how it is they will get to work and if they will be even be able to!

But the snow does not just cause trouble to those who drive cars, vans or who travel on busses and trains. It also causes huge problems and extra work for us here at Canal Cruises

In order to be able to sail the boats we have to constantly keep Riley Green Marina free from ice, whilst also keeping the canal clear too! This is a task which we could do without but we get on with it because of our passion for sailing.

Firstly we have to check all the exterior water pipes, if necessary these may need defrosting. Next we have to check all of our boats to ensure that there are no freezing pipes before making sure that the heating is on each and every boat. The next job is to check for supplies. We have to ensure that there is enough gas, coal and diesel stocks for the marina customers.

Finally we sent out the beast! Jersey Wanderer, our big boat is sent out and can effectively break a channel through the ice so that then we can cruise.

Then it is all pleasurable sailing from there! With the central heated boats you can be all snug and toasty with the icy cold weather having little effect to you. So if you were thinking of going cruising but the ice and snowy conditions were the only things holding you back then don’t let them! Come join us for a cruise along the canal and maybe you will spot some wildlife who make their homes on the banks.
